Humane, effective Cane Toad control is here!
Break the breeding cycle of Cane Toads (Rhinella marina) by trapping hundreds of tadpoles at a time. Our world first technology targets Cane Toads in their vulnerable tadpole phase, before they grow up to cause damage.
Use in toad breeding waterways - perfect for dams, streams and ponds.
How does it work?
Cane Toad tadpoles in Australia have evolved to cannibalise other Cane Toad eggs. The active ingredient in the lure is the same pheromone that attracts the tadpoles to the eggs! When placed in the trap, the lure creates a 'scent plume' through the water that Cane Toad tadpoles will follow into the trap, making them easy to remove and euthanise.
The lure is an environmentally friendly, humane solution. The lure is only attractive to cane toad tadpoles and has no impact on waterway health or native frog species.
I had 18 month old lures which I first used and they worked ok and got a reasonable number in.
When I used the new lures, one overnight session caught 5 tadpoles, the next session with fresh lure trapped one - which I think got sucked in when filling the container. So overall a pretyy bad result.
Tadpoles were large and with legs. They weren't swarming but scattered all over the rocks in the pond - zoom in on picture.
The container is way too bouyant and difficult to stabilise.
Hi David, thank you for your review. We're sorry to hear your new packet of lures hasn't given the results you were hoping for. One thing to note here is that you mentioned an 'overnight session.' Cane toad tadpoles are most active during the day, particularly in warm sunny weather. For this reason we recommend setting your trap in the morning as close to a swarm of tadpoles as possible and leaving until the mid-afternoon, night time sessions will unfortunately not yield many results as tadpoles are not looking for food during this time. We'd love to help you further improve your trapping results, please email our team at canetoads@watergum.org where we can provide more specific advice or assistance.
These lures and the Watergum contraption are so overdue as a viable method of addressing cane toads. They work far better than any other methods we have tried to reduce the cane toad population. We cannot recommend more highly!
Hi Patricia, thank you for your great review! We're so pleased to hear you're finding the trap and lures an efficient method of cane toad control.
I used 2 lures each time (not sure if 2 is better than 1 ?), for 3 consequtive collections from the purchased collection kit, for a 6,000 Litre pond. The pond had been inundated with literally thousands of toad tadpoles. I can't see any more, the last collection was 3 individual strays that avoided the first two collections, so it could be 100% success rate.
Hi Peter, thank you for your fantastic review! We're glad to hear you've managed to completely remove tadpole swarms from your pond. You should only need to use one lure at a time as each lure has an exact amount of solution added to ensure effectiveness, this will ensure your lures last you a longer time. If the tadpoles are particularly spread out across your pond we might recommend purchasing another trap and setting the two traps each with one lure on opposite sides of the pond (>10m apart) to maximise your catch, or simply moving the trap's location bnetween sessions. Keep up the great work!
We have a riparian area on our property which attracts lots of frogs but lots of toads. This year I caught hundreds of cane toad tadpoles by setting the trap next to the swarming cane toad tadpoles. In previous years our property would be covered in hundreds of small cane toads at the beginning of summer and we would spend hours trying to catch them. Now we can fight them at the source hundreds at a time. Best product ever!
These work a treat.
